How to use this tool (step by step)

Small steps, each with the reason behind it. Perfect for beginners, and a handy checklist for experts.

  1. Change a color

    • Click the big colored area of any column.
    • Pick a color in the window that opens, or type a HEX code in the box under it.
    • The palette updates immediately.

Why we do this: You are in full control: every color can be exactly what you want.

  2. Add or remove colors

    • Press + Add color to add a new one next to the last.
    • Press the ✕ button on a column to remove it.
    • Use the arrows to move a color left or right.

Why we do this: Different projects need different sizes. Three colors for a logo, eight for a chart.

  3. Let the tool help

    • Press Randomize (or the Space key) for a fresh idea.
    • Press the lock 🔒 on colors you want to keep first.
    • Or press a match style, such as Complementary, to fill the palette from your first color.

Why we do this: Randomizing is the fastest way to discover combinations you would not think of. Locking keeps the good parts.

  4. Save or share

    • Type a name and press Save palette.
    • Press Copy share link and send the link to anyone: it opens with your palette.
    • Press Download PNG to get a picture of the palette.

Why we do this: Saved palettes come back next time you visit, and a link lets friends or clients see exactly what you made.

  5. Use it in your project

    • Press Copy CSS for website variables.
    • Press Copy SCSS or Copy JSON for other tools.
    • Paste into your code or design program.

Why we do this: Different tools expect different formats, so copying the right one saves time.
