How to use this tool (step by step)

Small steps, each with the reason behind it. Perfect for beginners, and a handy checklist for experts.

  1. Choose a photo

    • Press the box and choose a picture.
    • Pictures with a clear subject and simple background work best.
    • Square or portrait crops give a good chart.

Why we do this: The chart is made from your picture, so a clear picture gives a clear pattern.

  2. Adjust the size

    • Move the Width slider. More stitches means more detail but more work.
    • Move the Thread colors slider. Fewer colors are easier to stitch.
    • Choose your fabric count (14 is common).

Why we do this: Stitchers balance detail and effort. The sliders let you see the effect instantly.

  3. Read the chart

    • Each square has a symbol and a color.
    • Thicker lines mark every 10 stitches to help you count.
    • The legend lists how many stitches of each color you need.

Why we do this: The grid lines and counts help you keep your place while stitching.

  4. Save it

    • Press Download chart (PNG) to print or keep.
    • Press Copy legend for a spreadsheet.
    • Start stitching from the center to keep it straight.

Why we do this: A saved chart works offline and can be printed.

Questions people ask

Quick answers.

Does it use DMC thread numbers?

No. It finds the main colors of your photo and shows their HEX codes. To buy thread, compare each HEX with a thread color card, because thread charts are owned by the thread brands.

How big will my finished work be?

The page shows the size for your chosen fabric count. A 60-stitch wide chart on 14-count fabric is about 4.3 inches wide.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser.
