How to use this tool (step by step)

Small steps, each with the reason behind it. Perfect for beginners, and a handy checklist for experts.

  1. Add your picture

    • Press the big box that says Tap or click here.
    • Choose a photo or any picture from your phone or computer.
    • You can also drag a picture onto the box, or paste it with Ctrl + V.

Why we do this: The tool needs a picture before it can read any color from it. Nothing is uploaded; it all happens inside your browser.

  2. Pick a color

    • Move your mouse (or finger) over the picture and watch the little label show the color.
    • Click or tap the exact spot you like.
    • Look at the right side: the color appears with its name and codes.

Why we do this: Every spot on a picture has its own color. Clicking tells the tool which exact spot you care about.

  3. Copy the code

    • Press the small copy button next to HEX (the code most websites use).
    • A message pops up in the corner to confirm the copy.
    • Paste it into your design, document or website code.

Why we do this: A code is the only way to use the same color again somewhere else, exactly as it looks in the picture.

  4. Look closer (optional)

    • Press Open full screen.
    • Scroll your mouse wheel, or pinch with two fingers, to zoom in.
    • Drag to move the picture, then click a tiny detail to pick it. Press the X (or Esc) to close.

Why we do this: Small details such as an eye color or a logo are tiny. Zooming lets you pick exactly the pixel you want.

  5. Use the main colors

    • Scroll to Main colors of this picture.
    • Choose 5, 8 or 12 colors.
    • Tap any swatch to copy it, or copy all codes at once.

Why we do this: These colors give you a ready-made palette that matches your picture, which is great for matching a website or poster to a photo.

Questions people ask

Quick answers.

Is my picture uploaded to a server?

No. The picture is opened inside your own browser and is never sent to us or anyone else.

Why does the color I pick look slightly different from what I expected?

Screens, photo editing and image compression can change colors a little. The code you get is the exact value stored in the picture at that spot.

What is the biggest picture I can use?

Up to 20 MB. Very large photos are read at a reduced size (up to 4096 pixels on the long side), which is plenty for accurate color picking.

Can I pick colors from a screenshot?

Yes. Take a screenshot, paste it here with Ctrl + V, and click on the part you want.
